H. JEROCH and W. PETER:

The effectiveness of microbial phytase addition to layer rations on maize and wheat basis

Summary

In two feeding trials with laying hens the effectiveness of a microbial phytase addition to maize soybean and wheat soybean rations was tested. Both feed mixtures contained 3.3 g/kg total P and 2.2 g/kg phytate P. Each ration was fed without additions, with phytase addition and with a mineral P supplementation. By phytase or mineral P supplementation to the maize based diet the performance of the hens was kept on a significantly higher level. However, the additions to the wheat based diet did not influence the performance parameters. The hens getting the phytase added ration obtained a better stability of egg shell. Key-words: laying hen, maize, wheat, phytase, egg performance.
