Nutrient balances on organically managed grassland farms in Upper Austria

Summary

In 1994 nutrient balances for nitrogen, phosphor and potassium on nine organically managed grassland farms in the region Molln (Upper Austria) were calculated. On farmgate level the balances for N reached from – 14 to + 4,7 kg, for P from – 1,9 to + 5,8 kg and for K from – O,4 to + 19,4 kg per hectar and year. For one farm in this region a cowshed balance was computed. The losses of the input of N amounted to 321)/ 40,42) %, of P 4,11)/222) % and of K 40,21)/47,62) %. At field level of middle-intensive utilized meadows of the same farm the balances for N varied from – 75 to + 4 kg, for P from – 8,8 to + 17,9 kg and for K from – 64,3 to – 16,1 kg per hectar and year. Key words: organic farming, nutrient balances, grassland.
