L. GRUBER and F. LETTNER:

Impact of a Reduced Protein Supplementation in Bull Fattening With Maize Silage

Summary

In a fattening experiment with 20 Fleckvieh-bulls per group the impact of reduced protein supplementation (from 1.0 to 0.5 kg protein concentrate, 40 % XP) was investigated in the liveweight range of 245 to 597 kg. The animals were fed on high-energy maize silage and 2 kg concentrate. Feed intake and daily gains (ADG) were not significantly influenced by the reduction of protein supplementation from 1.0 to 0.5 kg protein concentrate (EKF). The results show that an average protein content of 11 % in DM and a protein/energy-ratio (PIE) of 10 g XP/MJ ME is sufficient for growing-finishing bulls in a liveweight range of 250 kg to 600 kg.
