M. WERTEKER:

Influences on the Glucosinolate Level or Rapeseed by the Sulphur- and Nitrogen Nutrition or the Plant

Summary

Although an influence of the sulphate contents of the soil on the glucosinolate contents of the seed can be observed with the results of trials performed on 6 locations in Austria in the years 1988 to 1990, no statistical significant correlation between the two parameters was found. The soil sulphate concentrations, measured on the different locations, were in the range of 100 to 160 ppm. This means, that the sulphate concentration was much higher than the minimum values referred in literature and in the upper range of fertilization trials referred. Based on plant analysis no surplus of sulphur could be observed. A positive correlation of the glucosinolate contents of the seed with the raw-protein contents leaves and seeds indicates an influence of the nitrogen nutrition on the formation of cosinolates.
