Use of L-Carnitine in the broiler ration

Summary

In a broiler feeding experiment the influence of Carnitine was tested. In comparison with a control group, 20 ppm, 40 ppm and 60 ppm L-Carnitine were added in the experimental groups. Each group consisted of 5 replications (boxes) with 65 chickens in each box. The chickens were kept on deep litter in a fully airconditioned stable. The criterions were fattening performance, slaughtering performance and car cass quality in consideration of meat and fat quality. Diets with L-Carnitine improved the fattening performance in tendency and the composition of the abdominal fat was significantly influenced. Key words: broiler, carnitine, performance, meat quality, fatty acids.
