Visiting researcher Dr. Ana Pajvančić - Cizelj

Ana will visit the Institute of Landscape Planning in June and September 2017 to work on her research project “The role of interurban networks in the regional diffusion of gender sensitive city model”. The research is funded by Austrian Academy of Sciences, Joint Excellence in Science and Humanities program.

Ana is Assistant Professor of Urban sociology, Sociology of gender and Environmental sociology at the Faculty of Philosophy, University of Novi Sad (Serbia), where she obtained her PhD in 2015. In her PhD research she explored the (urban) geographies of globalization, with special emphasis on the globalization of peripheral and semi-peripheral cities. Ana is also a gender expert, experienced in gender research and mainstreaming gender in different (urban) public policies. In her recent research, she explored gender aspects of refugee crisis in Serbia, as the gender expert in Gender Knowledge Hub (organization connecting gender researchers and practitioners in Serbia), supported by UNDP and Open Society Foundation.
 
She is currently trying to develop the theoretical and methodological framework for deeper integration of gender perspective in the critical urban theory, in the context of globalization. In her research visit to ILAP, Ana will explore Vienna gender sensitive city model, networks and actors through which it is diffused regionally and possibilities for its implementation within the local regulatory landscapes in Serbia. It is also expected for the research visit to result in further international scientific cooperation in this area. CV
Dr Ana Pajvančić – Cizelj (1980.) works as an assistant professor at the Department of Sociology, Faculty of Philosophy University of Novi Sad. In 2015 she defended her doctoral dissertation entitled „The global city concept as a tool for understanding the contemporary patterns of globalization and urbanization“. The main area of her interests are urban, environmental and gender sociology. She published more than 30 scientific papers, one book and initiated and coordinated more than ten sociological research projects in these areas. She has an extensive experience in conducting quantitative and qualitative sociological research with spatial and gender dimension. Some of research project she realized are “Democratization of city institutions: participation of citizens in the decision making in urban planning in Novi Sad” (2007); “Ecological problems of cities on Danube river” (2007); “Urban public spaces as a factor of social cohesion” (2009); “Women entrepreneurs and gender budgeting in the local community” (2009); “Study of green and recreational spaces” (2010); “Sociological study for Management plan of Petrovaradin Fortress in Novi Sad” (2015); “Reproduction of gender inequalities through urban planning: the case of Novi Sad” (2015). “Life stories of refugees as a tool for building social cohesion in local community: gender perspective” (2016).Her recent interests are related to gender aspects of every day urban life and gender aspects of urban/regional planning and sustainable urban development. Ana is also working with many different local, national and international governmental institutions and NGOs, primarily those active in the field of gender equality and local (urban) sustainable development (Provincial Gender Institute, Institute for Urbanism, City institute for protection of cultural heritage, UNDP, UN Women, Swedish International Center for Local Democracy and many others). The results of these activities, besides scientific publications, are policy measures aimed at improving the status of women in various aspects of social life in Serbia (politics, rural/urban development, urban planning, etc.). She was one of the founders of Gender knowledge hub, a think-thank organization connecting researchers and practitioners working in the field of gender equality, where she works as a gender expert on research programs.
