Influence of mechanical treatment and enzyme supplementation on nutritive value of peas (Pisum sativum L., conv. sativum) for broiler chickens

Summary

The influence of shelling and enzyme supplementation (fermentation product of F junthinellum with mainly carbohydrase activities) on digestibility and content of apparent metabolizable energy (AMEn) of peas (Pisum sativum L., conv. sativum) was estimated in a balance trial with male broiler chickens. The husks were removed only partially by the method used, and therefore the decrease in fibre and NDF content only had a small positive influence on digestibility of nutrients with the exception of crude fat and on the AMEn content of peas. Enzyme supplementation caused a clear improvement in feeding value. The digestibility was increased by 8 to 18 percent points and AMEn content increased to 13.1 vs. 11.4 MJ/kg dm. Key-words: broiler chickens, peas, shelling, feed enzyrne, digestibility, metabolizable energy.
