A pilot plant for continuously operated temperature swing adsorption (TSA) is designed with focus on scalability and built at the site of the biomass combined heat and power (CHP) plant Vienna/Simmering. Tests with real combustion exhaust gas and over several hundreds of hours deliver solid figures for a techno-economic evaluation of the TSA CO2 capture technology. The possibility of using locally available “green” CO2 from the biomass CHP plant for greenhouse fertilization is a promising scenario for a follow-up demonstration project in Vienna and will be tested at small scale within this project.
