Professor Steven W. Running teaches at BOKU !

              Professor Dr. Steven W. Running
Director, Numerical Terradynamic Simulation Group (NTSG)
College of Forestry & Conservation, University of Montana, Missoula   His primary research interest is the development of global and regional ecosystem biogeochemical models by integration of remote sensing with climatology and terrestrial ecology.  He is a Team Member for the NASA Earth Observing System, Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer. He has published over 240 scientific articles and isas a chapter Lead Author for the 4th Assessment of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, shared the Nobel Peace Prize in 2007. Prof. Running is an elected Fellow of the American Geophysical Union and is a Highly Cited Researcher by the Institute for Scientific Information.

During his stay Professor Dr. Steven W. Running is giving a lecture on "Large Scale Ecosystem Modeling" (Lecture 913.004, SE, 1.0 SWS)
Aim of the course  The three seminars are designed for students as well as faculty members interested in large scale ecosystem modeling by linking terrestrial with satellite driven data. Techniques developed for deriving NPP and LAI and how they are used for assessing global climate change impacts using MODIS satellite data are discussed.

Subject of the course

  • Conceptual development of biogeochemical Models
  • Regional scaling logic and its Application within Ecology
  • MODIS satellite driven ecology
