Cultural landscape prognosis as an inter- and transdisciplinary approach

Summary

Considering opinion polls, cultural landscape is one of the main reasons to be proud of Austria. Despite of this fact and the pressure on landscape, no cultural landscape prognosis is available. This might be due to complexity of cultural landscape and the absence of spatial, sectoral and disciplinary responsibility for landscape issues. Nevertheless in the light of sustainable development prognosis of cultural landscape is recommended. But the choice of methods should be adopted to the need of communication and motivation of inter- and transdisciplinary partners. This could be ensured by scenario techniques, visualization and narrative forms. Essential is the integration in real decision making and planning procedures. In this context, landscape prognosis can be an excellent tool for inter- and transdisciplinarity. Key words: Cultural landscape, prognosis, interdisciplinarity, scenarios.
