Prof. Aniruddha Sengupta

Indian Institute of Technology (IIT)

Kharagpur, India

Prof. Aniruddha Sengupta will be leader of WP5. Prof. Sengupta is an associate professor in the department of Civil Engineering, IIT Kharagpur, India. Before joining IIT Kharagpur, he worked for Harza Engineering Company of Chicago (now known as MWH Global) for 10 years as a senior engineer/ project engineer. He served as lead engineer/ project engineer in several hydro power projects involving design and analysis of dams, tunnels and power houses. He is a registered professional engineer in the state of Illinois (USA).  Aniruddha Sengupta joined Indian Institute of Technology Kharagpur at the end of 1999. His areas of interest are micro-mechanics, earthquake engineering, ground improvement and natural hazard mitigation. He has published over 26 research papers in peer-reviewed journals and over 30 publications in conference proceedings covering the broad area of the Geotechnical engineering. He has also written a chapter (Chapter 6) on “Earth Retaining Structures” in “Geotechnical Engineering Handbook” edited by B.M. Das, and published by J. Ross Publishing, Inc., Florida USA (2010). Aniruddha Sengupta is involved in several consultancy projects serving the government as well as the private agencies. He has been principal investigator/co-principal investigator of several research projects including “Modeling and Monitoring of Landslide Hazard in Sikkim Himalayas” sponsored by the Department of Science and Technology, Government of India, New Delhi. It was a part of DST’s natural disaster management program. It included field instrumentation and long term monitoring of Lanta Khola landslide on North-Sikkim Highway in Sikkim, India. Some of the research papers on landslides published recently is given below.
