Objectives:

By the end of this video-based self-study course participants can:

  • articulate requirements for student activation and motivation in courses and apply these requirements to their own instruction,
  • plan their courses in such a way that they enhance student activation and motivation,
  • select and apply appropriate methods for student activation in their courses, 
  • list the Big Five of Student Motivation and apply these to their own instruction,
  • develop settings for sustainable learning that promote student activation and motivation

  • Requirements for student motivation and activation in (online) courses
  • The Big Five of Student Motivation
  • Appropriate teaching and learning methods to enhance student activation and motivation

Methods:

This is a video-based self-study course. Participants work their way through a video-based online course using various learning and teaching methods (short videos, tasks, personal reflection, text analysis).

Dates and Location:

Date: Course participation and completion possible at all times as this is a video-based self-study course. Participants thus have maximum flexibility are free to decide when they wish to learn

Trainer/Instructor:

Mag.a Mag.a Dr.in Elisabeth Weber

Mag.a Mag.a Dr.in Elisabeth Weber is a certified didactics expert and professional instructor.
She received university degrees for Pedagogy, Psychology, Philosophy, Teaching English, and English and American Studies. She also holds a Doctorate degree in English Linguistics.
She has intensively worked as instructor at secondary and tertiary level for twenty years. At BOKU, she presently teaches English language courses for students and works as teacher trainer / educator providing didactics courses for university instructors.

She is responsible for the didactic concept and implementation of BOKU's ESP course "Introduction to Academic Agricultural English" for which she was honored with the first prize of BOKU's Teaching Award by an international jury in 2014. She is especially interested in teacher professionalization, the implementation of e-learning, and strengthening the connections between English as a Lingua Franca research, teaching practice and theory.
