The Institute of Transport Studies presents a new learning video on the topic of eco- and cycle tourism using the example of a tour to the National Park Neusiedler See - Seewinkel

On Wednesday 14 October 2020, a team of five persons from the Institute of Transport Studies at BOKU Vienna and the Climate and Energy Model Region Schwarzatal (https://www.kem-schwarzatal.at/) demonstrated the practical applicability of the principles developed in the EcoVeloTour project. A one-day excursion to the destination National Park Neusiedler See - Seewinkel was chosen as the format (http://www.nationalpark-neusiedlersee-seewinkel.at/nationalpark.html).

In line with the EcoVeloTour concepts, the journey was made environmentally friendly and intermodal by train and bicycle. From the train station in Neusiedl am See, we cycled, despite continuous rain, along the Neusiedler See Cycle Path B10, which has been awarded with five stars by the German ADFC, to Illmitz (https://www.adfc-radtourismus.de/neusiedler-see-radweg/). First parts of the National Park were crossed on our way. At the National Park information centre in Illmitz a workshop on cycling and ecotourism was held together with other participants, who were connected via video conference. The workshop was followed by a guided tour through the southern part of the National Park Neusiedler See - Seewinkel. The return journey to Vienna was made by train and bicycle via the rail station in Pamhagen.

The experiences of the day were summarised in a five-minute educational video. The video documents the intermodal journey by train and bicycle as well as the guided tour through the National Park. Interesting elements of the Neusiedler See Cycle Path are highlighted and cross-referenced to the respective chapters of the EcoVeloTour Guidelines.
