The Cluster for Development Research bundles thematic and methodological expertise at BOKU in order to best contribute to a transition towards ecological, economic and social sustainability in the Global South.

The Cluster originated from an initiative by BOKU-researchers with research interests in the Global South. In 2004 the Research for Development-Forum was founded. In 2009, as the Centre for Development Research, this was integrated into the BOKU organizational structure along side the departments. With the formation of the Institute for Development Research in 2020, the centre became a cluster where the partner community continues the succesful cooperation.
